Ancestors of Swami Vivekananda

During the Mughol times Swamiji's ancestors lived in a village called Deretona which is situated in Burdwan district of West Bengal. One of his ancestors Ram Nidhi Dutta was one of the early settlers when the city of Calcutta was founded. Later another ancestors Ram Mohan Dutta moved into the northern part of the city, which is known as "Simla." Ram Mohan Dutta's eldest son Durga Prasad Dutta who was Narendranath Dutta's grand father renounced the World in mid twenties (twenty five years) to become a Sanyasi. Rammohan Dutta the great grand father of the Swami, was a flourishing lawyer in the City of Calcutta (Govindapur)He had amassed  much wealth and was a well respected member of the Society. The house where Swamiji was born, 3 no.  Gour Mohan Mukherjee street, Kolkata, was constructed by him. His son Gurga Charan though an inheritor of immense wealth, developed spiritual interest from his boyhood and after the birth of Viswanath, father of Swami Vivekananda, he renounced worldly life to become a monk.
Viswanath Dutta, father of swami Vivekananda, was also endowed with many intellectual qualities  and was kind hearted. He was  proficient in English, and Persian and took to law as profession. He was noted for his generosity and was a great lover of Music. Bhubaneswari Devi, mother of Swami Vivekananda, was noted for her unusual memory and could memorise long passages from the great epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, which she read daily.
